1. Opening of meeting held at Eden at Fogg Dam B&B. All welcomed. Present: Heather Boulden, Jane Moore, Leisa Baldwin, Jeremy Hemphill, Alan Anderson (by phone). Confirmed Jeremy/Jane 3 Business arising from minutes & ongoing issues · Donation box at Fogg Dam – see Item 8. · Weed management: Also see item 13. 4. Correspondence: Out: · 14 Jun 10, email to Barry Scott of P&W, suggesting that plans to upgrade the Woodland to Waterlily boardwalk include extension of the boardwalk to include more of the track which is still too wet. This is particularly relevant with regard to long term weather forecasting for the Top End. Also seeking a meeting to discuss options for opening up water at Fogg Dam in order to apply for funding through private sector bodies. Correspondence In: · 10 June 10, letter from the Hon. Karl Hampton, Minister for Environment, thanking FOFD for organising the Field Day and advising that we will be informed of progress to restore open water at the dam. Also advised that the Adelaide River Joint Management Plan is expected to be available for comment later in the year. · 10 Jun 10, email from Kezia Purick’s office, asking for FOFD’s calendar of events for inclusion in the Goyder electorate newsletter. · 17 Jun 10, emails from Susan Pederson, attaching draft of Humpty Doo Rice booklet and Trail. 5. Business arising from correspondence: · Calendar of events. Propose to meet every 4th Sunday of the month starting with the Annual General Meeting on Sunday 26 September at Kezia’s office. Note the need to prepare and distribute financial and other papers to members in advance of the AGM. Refer Item 9. 6 Humpty Doo Rice Trail. 2nd draft of booklet and trail document have been received for editing. Discussed. 7 Opening Fogg Dam water Alice Leppitt’s work should be seen as a first stage only. She provided a summary of her work to the FOFD meeting on 20 June including several photographs. She will provide FOFD a copy of her thesis which makes recommendations for trialling weed management options. That would seem to be a good PhD project, ideal for P&W to fund through NTG to CDU. Action: check to see if Parks has allocated money for that stage of work Alice also suggested monitoring of bird presence, numbers, species, nesting, etc be undertaken to monitor changes occurring., Need to monitor and record birds. Actions contact Sheryl and Arthur Keats and Richard Noske and Sydney university to find what might be done, how and who by. Alan suggests making a photogra;phic record – set up a permanent camera stand and take photos every few months 8 Donation box & brochure holders Donation box installed but damaged by vandals. Still to be repaired, painted, permanent sign attached and a key. Action: Alan to talk to Parks. 9 Finance $1,000.00 on fixed deposit. $5,470.43 in general a/c $3,500.00 committed for Rice Trail Heritage project. · Leisa anticipates providing annual and Heritage grant accounts to Tania Gamble of Redco for auditing by Friday 9 July. 10 Membership Renewals overdue. Membership number is important for successful grant applications. Minders have been sent out. 11 Wildfowl hunting Jeremy reported on his observations of last year’s hunting at Harrison Dam. 97 phone calls to Police reporting 101 incidences of shooting starting early or finishing late. Police and NT Firearms Council each visited Eden at Fogg Dam once over instances of shooting on private property and into private property, and litter: cartridge shells, drink containers, goose carcasses, etc. Jeremy attended a meeting at Freespirit Resort outling Government’s plans for shooting in 2010. Proposal is for hunting to commence and end 1 week earlier than in 2009, ie start 26 August and finish on 23 December with creation of a 100 metre buffer zone at the back of Anzac Parade properties Actions: · Jeremy to call on Humpty Doo Police and provide them and Kezia with a copy of his report and recommendations for controlling shooting this year in an attempt to tighten permit conditions. · Heather to contact Lambelll’s Lagoon Landcare group. It was noted there is potential conflict having goose shooting at Harrison Dam with tourists visiting the Rice Trail. 12 Garden Spectacular/Sustainable Living Expo 5,6 June. Thanks to Jo, Leisa, Veronica and Jeremy who staffed the stall. 29 people added to the FOFD contact list and an interview with ABC radio. 13 Other business – · Veronica set up FOFD signs and information tables at Milner Primary School for the Student Sustainability Summit NT, Connecting the Energy Smart Schools Program, Presented by Planet Savers Australia on Monday 7June. 5 people added to the FOFD contact list. · Updating Business Plan – draft updated with achievements by Jane, Leisa and Heather. Needs the vision added. · Looking for things to involve members and attract new members. · Weeding/weeds plan: Action: Alan to talk to Parks. · Given our limited membership and resources, Jane: suggested asking kindred organisations to organise meetings at Fogg Dam, eg bird walks in November, butterflies in April, botany, etc. Heather; suggested asking Parks to arrange a weed identification and weeding day each year to include a BBQ, bush dance, poetry, etc. Time to do this? Those interested to be involved? · Alan suggested Parks be asked to establish a BBQ on the western side of the dam and ask for volunteers to assist. · Rose Childe of National Green Jobs HETA Inc is looking for construction work and associated weeding for her green corps.
