LOCATION Rotunda at Fogg Dam. 1. Meeting Opened at 1.00 pm. Present: Alan Anderson, Gemina Corpus, Leisa Baldwin, Wayne Bennett, Strider, Heather Boulden, Jeremy Hemphill. Apologies: Brian and Lyn Reid, Harry and Karen Bowman, Jane Moore, Penny Wurm, Cynthia and Philip Croft. 2 Minutes of meeting 26 October 2008 Acceptance moved Jeremy/Leisa. Carried. 3 Business arising from minutes a) Preservative treatment for Woodland to Waterlily boardwalk – working bee held prior to this meeting. Preservative rather than Lanoline used. Material Safety Data Sheet provided by Parks was tabled. b) Fogg Dam equipment list from Ken Levy – awaiting return of Monika, overseas. c) Monsoon Forest Interpretive signage – Alan & Strider - in abeyance pending replacement of boardwalk. d) Donation boxes – awaiting response from P&W e) Photographs of Field Day (mainly Gemina’s) to be put on website f) Traditional Owners contacted and they are happy to have the next Field Day in April or May in 2010l 4. Correspondence: Out: • 31 Oct, email to Minister Alison Anderson inviting her to celebrate completion of the Monsoon Forest Boardwalk on 14 December at 3pm. • Application for Telstra community grant to purchase shed for equipment submitted. • Get well card posted to Honorary member, Ted Kilpatrick. • 9 Nov, email to Barry Scott, enquiring about the possibility of being paid for applying lanoline to the boardwalk. • 13 Nov, Media Plan for Aust Post/Landcare grant posted. • 14 Nov, email to ATDW thanking them for publicising the Field Day and advising the next is to be in April or May in 2010. • Various emails to Jane Moore re the signs for the grant. Correspondence In: • 4 Nov, a sign request form received from T&W • 6 Nov, email from Barry Scott, advising on progress of the Monsoon Forest boardwalk and enclosing photographs. • 10 November, email from Minister Anderson’s office saying she will be on leave on 14 December. • 11 Nov, email from Barry Scott advising that P&W policy no longer allows volunteers to be paid for work that contractors can do. There can be some ‘in kind’ reimbursement for volunteer work. He indicated that P&W may be able to assist with the signage if funds from the grant are insufficient. • 11 Nov, letter from Kezia Purick, enclosing a copy of a positive speech she made in Parliament on 22 October about FOFD and the field day Correspondence accepted: Jeremy/Gemina 5. Business arising from correspondence: • Official opening/celebration of MF boardwalk. Discussed Minister’s availability in January 09. Minister is in Alice 1st week of the month, otherwise in Darwin. Discussing with Parks. 6. Aust. Post/Landcare Grant: PR Plan Leisa is the PR Officer. The following media messages & behaviours we’d like to encourage have been prepared. Media Messages • An Australia Post/Landcare grant has provided valuable resources for Friends of Fogg Dam Inc to hold regular working bees to maintain and improve infrastructure at Fogg Dam. • Fogg Dam is a Territory treasure, just one hour from Darwin and accessible all year round – we need to protect it. • Fogg Dam has so much of interest: colourful history; a variety of environmental habitats supporting diverse flora and fauna; paradise for bird watchers, photographers and biologists; and a research base for many years. Behaviours we’d like to encourage in others • Participation in working bees to maintain infrastructure and control weeds at Fogg Dam. • Protection of the environment at Fogg Dam: driving slowly and carefully across the causeway; no fishing; no pets; no hunting; no open fires. • Interest in learning about the history and heritage value of Fogg Dam and the Humpty Doo Rice Project, as well as ongoing research studies. Suggestions and production Information provided by Jane Moore: Areas 2 x 89cm high and 202,5 cm wide 2 x 119cm high and 41.5 cm wide 1 x 119cn high and 90.5 cm wide (info sign at front) Suggestions for information on the signs proposed: • History of the rice project and Fogg Dam Traditional owner seasons • Traditional owner seasons • What to do, activities, at Fogg Dam • Facilities • Friends of Fogg Dam info • Separate stable information and changing information to make updating easier,ie only the changing information • Links to other parks and activities in the area: Windows on Wetland, the other Adelaide River Parks, Adelaide River and crocodile cruises. c) Purchase of equipment: Alan to obtain quotes. Committee to consider before purchases made 8. Finance Auditors Report lodged with Business Affairs $3000 from Aust. Post/Landcare deposited into Bank A/c Token for ebanking purchased Total funds $4,555.00 9. Other business – • Telstra Shop Darwin and Winnellie Community Grants program. Jeremy advised he made a submission for a shed to store the FOFD equipment under this program. • Thanks to P&W for the BBQ . 10. Next Functions a) Meeting Initial plans changed. Now 2.30pm at Kezia Purick’s Community Meeting Room at Coolalinga Shopping Centre – entry from the back of the shops. Working Bee To be advised when the boardwalk is re-opened. Strider and Alan report that weeding of snakeweed along the Monsoon Forest walk last year has been effective. It needs to be extended further. b) Official opening of Monsoon Forest Boardwalk To be advised. 11. Meeting closed at 1.45pm.
