Meeting held at the electoral office of Mr Gerry Woods, MLA, Howard Springs.
Meeting opened at 2.45pm. Present: Alan Anderson, Gemina Corpus, Jo Vandermark, Jane Moore, Leisa Baldwin, Strider, Heather Boulden, Jeremy Hemphill. Business arising from minutes a) Bird brochure – Niven has sent a brilliant bird brochure which will be available for the Field Day. b) Wollemi Pine delivered to Middle Point School on 8 August with flyer about Fogg Dam Field Day. c) Lanoline treatment for Woodland to Waterlily boardwalk – on hold, awaiting P&W. d) Fogg Dam equipment list from Ken Levy – on hold, Monika overseas e) Monsoon Forest Interpretive signage – Alan is reviewing the old tree list f) Donation boxes – awaiting response from P&W 3. Alan A has seen P&W who will produce the brochure and provide images. • Open Day matters – see Item 6. 5. Field Day • Program – copies of the draft were available. Agreed to ask Alison Anderson (new Minister), to open the day; to invite ERISS to give a talk on pests and Dr Chris Humphrey to demonstrate “what’s in the water”. Strider has offered to support Russell Dempster on the 2.00pm Native:Plant Walk. Dr Madsen to be asked to include the heritage value of the Adelaide River floodplain in his talk.. • Prizes: from P&W and sponsors o ConocoPhillips – will provide printing (except from 5-16 Sep) plus pens, caps. o Deck Chair Cinema – 2 double passes o Woolworths – bottled water o Cancer Council: sunscreen pumps, awaiting confirmation o Chemart Nightcliff - insect repellent – awaiting confirmation o Birch & Carroll & Coyle, Darwin - two double movie passes received • Acknowledgement of sponsors: logos to go on program • Evaluation: Jenny preparing questions for back of program – lucky number for a prize. • Parking, base station: P&W preparing area • Signs: white boards at Entrance, Rotunda and Car park to list what’s on next. Leisa and Gemina arranging with P&W • NT Gov’t free bus: o depart Palmerston 9.25am after connecting buses from Darwin & Casuarina o depart Fogg Dam 12.05pm o depart Palmerston 12.55pm o depart Fogg Dam 4.45pm • Causeway transport : Government bus available approx 10.30am – 12.00noon, and .2.00pm – 4.30 pm. Check if Hunter Safaris can cover other times with its minibus, if not will need to take up Europecar’s offer. • Toilets: 2 transportables being provided by P&W • Official opening - Minister for the Environment, Alison Anderson, invited • Sausage sizzle & drinks: Litchfield Lyons from 11.30am for 2 hours and longer if required • Bird brochure, bird flyer: master copies have been prepared. Need to check power requirements. • Treasure Hunts: Leisa organising, planning well advanced • Junior Ranger activities: nothing definite. • invitations: who to get official invites – sponsors, Environment and Tourism Ministers, heads of P&W, Tourism, Tourism Top End, ABC, Administrator, Donna Jackson (Larrakeya/Wulna), Lord Mayor, School Principals (Middle Point, Taminmin, H Doo primary), Frogwatch, Terry Mills, Kezia Purich, Gerry Woods Ted Warren, Len Kiely. • Press release: Gemina/Leisa preparing, Jeremy offered to proof read. • Flyer distribution: aim to print and distribute around 1000 copies to district notice boards, politicians’ offices, friends, tourism businesses (eg Didjeridoo Hut, Windows on Wetland, crocodile cruises), businesses with links to Fogg Dam area, members’ local shops, nurseries. Need assistance of all FOFD members. • Other publicity: Tourism NT; Tourism Top End; ABC • TV; radio (ABC, Top FM), newspapers (NT News, Territory Times, Darwin/Palmerston Sun); schools; military; NT Health junk mail; NT Government website; What’s on in Darwin/Palmerston (?) • Aiming to have talks on ABC: Leon Compton, Annie Gaston, and Top FM: Daryl Manzie. • Marshalls: only Penny Steel has volunteered. Annual General Meeting. 10.00am, Sunday 28 September at Fogg Dam. To be followed by a barbeque. Jeremy to contact Michael Stott re preparation of accounts and notice of meeting. 8. Australia Post-Landcare Grants This round of grants of up to $3,300.00 closes 19 September 2008. Information was sent to Cynthia on 15 August. We propose to seek funds for: • St John’s First Aid Kit; • Personal safety gear: gloves; safety goggles; insect repellent • small shed and/or large lockable cabinet to store equipment • equipment: 1 toolbox, 3 shovels, 3 fire rakes, 2 axes, 2 mattocks, 2 knapsack sprayers, 1 wheelbarrow • information signage on Anzac Parade Some items still to be costed. 9. Other business: If you have but have not yet provided old photos of Fogg Dam for P&W to consider for inclusion in the next Plan of Management, please let Heather know: black and white or colour, ideally including people. Thanks to Gerry Wood MLA for the use of his office for this FOFD meeting. 10. Next meetings: a) 4.00 pm Saturday 13 September, at Fogg Dam rotunda – finalise Field Day arrangements. b) 10.00am, Sunday 28 September at Fogg Dam - AGM Action items appended.
