Karl Hampton, Minister for Parks & Wildlife, responding to our letter of 30 Nov 09 seeking information about preparation for rising sea levels in the Adelaide River floodplains and also the Field Day.  He referred us to the NT Gov’t Climate Change Policy www.greeningnt.nt.gov.au   He referred us to Barry Scott to find a suitably qualified spokesperson to speak on the topic on the Field Day.

·           23 March 10, letter from the Hon Gerry McCarthy, Minister for Transport, formally advising approval of public transport for the Field Day and attaching a copy of the timetable.

·           23 March 10, email advising about 2010-11 EnvironmeNT Grants: closing 18 June 10.

·           23 March 10, email with additional information about EnvironmeNT Grants.  Five categories for grants are: climate change; invasive species mgt; waste & resource recovery; water conservation; wildlife conservation.

·           24 March 10, email from Liz Martin, OAM, who attended Middle Point School the first year it opened, seeking photographs of Fogg Dam and the strychnine berry tree for a book she is writing.

·           24 March 10, email from Liz Martin, thanking for photos.  Her elderly father, Ron Ball, is in Katherine.  Her family were good friends of Don Buck & Bob Parker of Territory Rice.

·           27 March 10, permits for butterfly netting on Field Day received.

6.            Fogg Dam Field Day, 11 April 2010

Heather provided a working plan and spoke of arrangements

·           Agreed Heather and Jeremy will meet with Barry Scott and Dean Lonza (P&W)

(That happened with the result Parks agreed to:
clear an area on the west of the causeway for parking

provide parking, traffic management and toilet signs

install the donation box near Pandanus Knoll

provide a table and ribbon for Minister to open the Monsoon forest walk

allow shade structures to be installed and the circle around Pandanus Knoll to be closed to traffic

provide water at the portable toilets

Woodland to Waterlillies walk will be open

However, Causeway won’t be open to the public

 

§    FOFD will:

 provide a speaker system for the Monsoon forest walk opening

set up a greeting point with card table, programs, exit survey, FOFD sign, umbrella and esky on road near rotunda

set up signs for nature walks at each eastern walk

set up FOFD information stand with gazebo and sign at Pandanus knoll

set up rented PA system, borrowed power point display and generator at shade structure

set up borrowed Landcare tent for children’s activitiescount numbers of people attending

give out promotional brochures at schools, Didgeridoo Hut, Humpty Doo post office, LA member offices, shopping centre notice boards, etc

notify stall holders of display areas

arrange delivery of portable toilets and shade structures

purchase additional plastic name card holders

 

 

·           A roster will be prepared for manning displays, entrance point, and participating on nature walks. .

 

7.     Humpty Doo Rice Trail.  

         Heather & Jane met with Susan Pedersen on Thursday 25 March. 

 

8.            Donation box & brochure holders

         Donation box ready to be installed.   Will then need to be painted. Parks has signage for the donation box at the Fogg Dam ranger station.

 

9.            Finance

         Grant funding of $10,000.00 was on fixed interest deposit for 4 months to 28

         February and earned $163.78 interest.
